Threats Towards the Arctic Tundra in Alaska
I chose a tundra-biome to take to the Mars station, because this
habitat is endangered and under threat from many factors. There are factors such
as: global warming (the rising temperatures would cause the ice on the high
peaks of the tundra to melt, this would cause a change to the landscape which
eventually would affect the species living there), invasive species (that may
affect the natural animals and plants life by affecting the food chain, for
example the Red fox which was introduced by Europeans), air pollution (causing
smog clouds to form which might contaminate reliable food sources, water sources
and the oxygen within the Arctic Tundra) oil spills (caused by humans and
threatens many wildlife species, possibly through water sources) as well as
buildings and roads that projects heat to the surroundings causing organisms
that live in the Arctic Tundra such as the Polar bear, have no use for its
blubber and have to adapt to its new environment changing many things such as:
the food chains and webs within the ecosystem, adaptions of many other species,
etc. I believe the threat about roads and buildings is also important because
even though there would surely be roads and building built on Mars as well, that
might pose a similar threat, taking into consideration that taking the ecosystem
to Mars is to take away all of the threats towards the ecosystem, or for me the
Arctic Tundra Biome/ecosystem.
